When it comes to times of adversity, everyone starts just trying to survive. Then, survival becomes a driver that allows us to find our way through the darkness. What we need to know is that just as the earth's shadow gives us night, we are never permanently in darkness. Just as the sun rises in the morning, the light will always return. Darkness is only ever the temporary shadow of something larger than us.
